SPC 1017 - Interpersonal Communication (Professor Mayra Holzer): Fall 2019

The interpersonal Communication course allowed me to learn how to be open-minded with other cultures. Professor Mayra Holzer created assignments like a presentation about cultural dimensions to help me and my classmates articulate the relationship between communication and culture. She also built a friendly and open-minded study environment where all students can feel free to express their opinions and beliefs in the class. This course taught me that each person has their own values, beliefs, religions, and other backgrounds, so everyone needs to respect cultural diversity and to be respected.

HUM 1020 - Introduction to Humanities (Professor Julie Montione): Fall 2019

The Introduction to Humanities class provided me a deeper and more academic look at Western Civilization. That was my first time truly approaching this civilization through religion, philosophy, architecture, music, art, and more aspects. Professor Julie Montione asked her students to get out of their comfort zone and explore the real world. Her assignment required students to go out, observe and take a selfie of themselves and an architectural feature from the Classical world, which is around Orlando. Professor Montione also created a Cultural Event Essay assignment to give students a chance to explore art masterpieces related to Western Civilization. Thanks to this homework, I went to the Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art, where exhibits the impressive and incredible art collections of the artist Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848–1933). This class made me fall in love with Western Civilization History, especially the Greek and Roman periods.

HUM 2220 - Humanities Greek/Roman (Professor Remy Ansiello): Summer 2020

I took this class because of my love of the Greek and Roman eras from the Introduction to Humanities course. Professor Remy Ansiello created written assignments to allow students to explore Greece and Rome in ancient times more in-depth. Even though that was an online class, I still learned a lot of new knowledge.

EUH 2001 - Modern West Civilization (Professor Heather Bryson): Summer 2020

The course emphasized concepts and events of modern Western society. Professor Heather Bryson aided me to be able to analyze historical events to better understand present-day happenings. I took Introduction to Humanities course to have general perspectives about Western Civilization and the Humanities Greek/ Roman class to expand my knowledge about the root of Western culture, so this class strengthened my comprehension of this civilization. Especially, I was able to get to know about the Vietnam War from the perspectives of the US through PBS documentary. Of course, there was information that I could not learn from my high school history textbooks.

INR 2002 - International Politics (Professor Michael Hristakopoulos): Spring 2021

International Politics class enabled me to gain a critical understanding of the overall politics and especially contemporary globalization. The course aimed to develop my comprehension of contemporary global issues. Through reading assignments that Professor Michael Hristakopoulos created, I was informed about the causes of current conflict about globalization and methods of conflict resolution.

REFLECTION

I took part in VGD internationalized courses because it is the easiest and best way to gain world knowledge that global citizens should have. Each class helped me broaden my knowledge about the world thanks to assignments, research, or homework. This makes me a better global citizen than before because I am able to broaden my comprehension as well as improve my cognitive skills as a global citizen. In addition to learning more about the US culture, I have the ability to examine and be aware of global issues.
